What an absolutely spectacular day! We decided to go on another fishing adventure with Captain Santos Soto and his boat “YURANY”. On our journey out of the bay we stop at a different bait boat and Santos purchases some live bait which he tucks away in the back of the boat in some water. This time out we are heading further out in the hopes to catch Sailfish. On our way out we saw an amazing sunrise.
Captain Santos performs his usual ritual on the way out of the bay where he literally sews the bait fish onto the hooks. We did not get any bites as soon as we did last time but when we did we had TWO sailfish on at the same time. Pat took the first hit and moments later I took the second! The one I caught was on a shorter line so was the first one in the boat. Pat’s was further out so it took a little longer to reel him in. We caught a total of FOUR sailfish today!! We released one as he only got hooked on the bottom of his mouth. We came across a sailfish floating on the surface that was still alive. It was obviously from another fishing boat that attempted to “catch and release” it. Unfortunately the sailfish did not make it but Santos will give this one to the poorer people from his church. We came to shore with three sailfish after a truly spectacular day fishing in Zihuatanejo. We had a number of strikes after catching the two sailfish which made for a most enjoyable day of fishing. We also came across many porpoise and the photo opportunity missed was a seagull resting on top of a turtle!
Upon our return into the bay we stopped briefly where we were greeted by a group of pelicans (Santos sailors). The pelicans are hoping the remaining bait will become an easy meal. No luck for the pelicans this time as our stop is brief and Santos decides the pelicans can look elsewhere for their next meal!
